Lindsey Stirling

Born in Santa Ana, California, Lindsey spent her high school years in Gilbert, Arizona. At the age of five her father’s classical music records influenced Lindsey to start playing the violin. For the next 12 years she took private lessons, perfecting the art. At 16, she and four friends started a rock band, called, “Stomp on Melvin.” She next moved to Provo, Utah to attend Brigham Young University, moving on to New York City for missionary work later.

At the age of 23 Lindsey found herself in the coveted position of being the quarter finalist in America’s Got Talent, Season Five. She was described as a hip hop violinist, electrifying the judges. Shortly afterwards, her first music video was shot in 2011; the first of many other music videos seen on her YouTube channel, Lindseystomp.

In December of 2012, Lindsey’s song on YouTube, “Crystallize,” was the No. 8 top-viewed video of the year with over 42 million views, and her cover version of “Radioactive” with Pentatonix won Response of the Year in the first YouTube Music Awards in 2013. Six months later, and she received her first golden certification for her self-titled album in Germany, followed shortly after in Switzerland and Austria. She was the second best-selling artist on the Classical Crossover charts in 2013, behind Andrea Bocelli. Lindsey appeared on several year-end charts.

This past April 23, Lindsey released the second single of her upcoming album, Shatter Me. The song, the album’s title track, accumulated 1.3 million views its first day online. The album was released April 29, and reached #2 on the Billboard 200.

Her YouTube channel continues to gain popularity, and has over 519 million total views and over four million subscribers (as of January 2014). Lindsey’s music is featured on Pandora, Spotify and Last.FM.
