The wait was finally over for all the MEW fans in Seattle that have been waiting 6 years for a new album by their favorite Danish band. The show at Neumos was sold out and everyone was ready for them to take the stage around 9:00P.M. on Wednesday night. Their latest album + – (Plus minus), also marks the return of bassist Johan Wohlert that took some time off to be a father before returning.
Was anything lost in the time it took to release the new material? Not at all, the band still produced a rock solid record that received favorable reviews this year. Their signature sound that derives from the unique vocals of Jonas Bjerre continues to intrigue new and old fans. It’s been a couple of months that original guitarist Bo Madsen decided to part ways with the band, and Mads Wegner has been touring with them since.
Their set started with “Witness”, “Satellites”, “Special”, with high energy and crowd jumping around excited. They continued with “The Zookeeper’s Boy”, “Water Slides”, the great “Am I Wry? No”, “Snow Brigade”, and ended their mail set with “156”. They came back and closed the show with “Comforting Sounds”, and we were all a little sad the night ended so fast. The band was interacting with the crowd and seemed to be having a good time on stage. I’m happy I caught them in Seattle for this show.
