RAC and Big Data Woo Showbox SoDo Audience with Co-Headlining Show

When I read that Big Data and RAC would be touring together as part of Going Our Own Way tour this fall, I wanted to make sure I caught their show in Seattle.  I hadn’t seen RAC before, but I always enjoyed his remixes and knew it was going to be a good time.  I’d seen Big Data at Firefly and Bumbershoot this year already and had enjoyed them as a new act to watch.

Producer/Mr.Data Alan Wilkis is not sitting behind a table mixing the tracks, he is in front of the stage dancing, singing and being a big part of the live show along with Liz Ryan who sings with the  band.  Wilkis caught his big break in 2013 when his single with Joywave “Dangerous” reached #1 on the alternative Billboard charts.

At the start of the tour the two bands covered each other’s songs releasing “Fair Trade” EP with Big Data covering “Let Go” and RAC their take on “Dangerous”. Big Data is promoting their latest single “Business of Emotion” off his debut album released in March 2.0. Throughout their show every few songs a robot recording guides the audience to get more interacted with the band which is pretty cool.  They ended with “Dangerous” that had RAC come out and surprise the band by joining them on stage dancing along to their routine.

For the main course of the night Remix Artist Collective aka RAC took the stage starting off with a couple of my favorite songs, Joywave’s “Tongues”, and Two Door Cinema Club’s “Something Good Can Work”, getting the party started.  The solo project of Andre Allen Anjos that tours as a five piece band with both bassist and guitarist taking turns at the songs as well as playing.  Andre himself does not sing but his wife Liz, who is also in Pink Feathers touring with RAC, leaves her synth position to sing “3am” during the show.

RAC released his debut album Strangers in 2014 which includes hits “Hollywood”, “All Got”, “Repeating Motion”, “Cheap Sunglasses”, and “Let Go”. The set included these and a good mix of his own remixes of some amazing artists.  His resume includes more than 200 so far since the formation of RAC in 2007.  The fact that he takes these songs and adds his own production and sounds creates such a unique niche.

It feels like throughout the whole show you are singing along with the band either to his original music or to some of your favorite songs that he’s remixed in the past few years.  The fact that he’s expanded into producing his own original music along with continuing to work with other artists shows a great future for him. The show ended with his newest “Living in the Back of a Car”, which is a fan favorite, and we all danced until the end.
