Experimental supergroup Fantomas have just announced that they’ll be getting together for one show in 2014 but unless you live or plan on traveling to South America you are out of luck.
Which lucky fans will be privy to Fantomas’ only scheduled 2014 performance? The answer is the attendees of Santiago, Chile’s first-ever RockOut festival on Dec. 6. The event also boasts Devo, Primus, Thurston Moore Band and many other acts for its coming out party.
Consisting of Faith No More frontman Mike Patton, Melvins frontman Buzz Osborne, Mr. Bungle bassist Trevor Dunn and Philm / ex-Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo, the project comes out of hibernation only once in a while. The band’s most recent full-length, ‘Suspended Animation,’ was released back in 2005, though Fantomas did perform “SKETCHBOOK 1: Page 20, 16, 26, 9, 15, 2, 19, 25 and 7″ for Melvins’ ‘Sugar Daddy Live’ split series.
In a recent interview we had with Buzz Osborne, he told us about the current state of Fantomas. “I have no reason to believe that we’ll do another record, but you never know. I tend to look at it like, if it happens, I can be pleasantly surprised. I’m happy it happened at all. I’m happy that we did more than one record. That’s far more than I could have expected … If it happens, great! I’m down.”
