Double-neck guitarist Ian Ethan Case is set to perform in Seattle on Friday, April 15th, at Taproot’s Isaac Studio Theatre. Music enthusiasts will have a rare opportunity to hear acoustic double-neck guitarist Ian Ethan Case and New Orleans-based drummer/percussionist G Maxwell Zemanovic in concert together. Songs from Case’s new album, Run Toward the Mountains, will fill the program with a rich array of sound — from solo acoustic to multi-layered compositions created through live electronic looping.
Case has been gaining increasing recognition among the national music community for his original compositions and highly innovative playing techniques, which exploit the full potential of the double-neck guitar’s 18 strings, and make maximum use of 21st century looping technology — all of which combine to create music that has been described by critics and listeners as “revolutionary,” “stunning,” “magical,” and even “spiritual.” Two-time US National Fingerstyle Guitar Competition winner and international touring artist Don Ross once described Case’s music as “a transfixing brand of energetic minimalism, with intense grooves and a harmonic sense reminiscent of Pat Metheny’s best moments.”
Case recently signed with Candyrat Records, the Milwaukee-based niche label which launched the careers of acoustic guitar stars such as Andy McKee and Antoine Dufour. Owner Rob Poland reached out after coming across an online video of Case performing “Butter II”, one of the songs from his new album, later declaring, “I have not been this excited about a new Candyrat artist in a long time.” The video has gone on to receive over 9 million combined views to date (including 6 million views on Facebook during October 2015 alone), drawing unsolicited praise from legendary bassist Leland Sklar (James Taylor, Phil Collins), producer Steven Miller (Dave Matthews Band, Bobby McFerrin), and Windham Hill Records Founder Will Ackerman.
One first-time California listener wrote, “Watching Ian play is not ‘listening to music…’ it’s a full mind experience.” He performed at Muriel Anderson’s 2013 All-Star Guitar Night at the annual NAMM convention in Anaheim; has played with Grammy-winning reed player Paul McCandless; collaborated with 4-time Grammy-winning cellist Eugene Friesen; and has been featured on NPR’s “Here and Now” program as well as on the public radio show “Echoes”.
G Maxwell Zemanovic has deep experience playing for international audiences and in 2014 played on a Grammy-nominated album by singer-songwriter Andrew Duhon.
Admission to the concert is $10 in advance / $15 day of show. Taproot Theatre Co is located at 212 N. 85th St Seattle, WA 98103. For more information about the concert, visit www.IanEthan.com/Concerts. For more information about Ian Ethan Case, visit www.IanEthan.com.
