With the Northwest Folklife Festival just around the corner arrives the much anticipated PreFest Party. This 21-and-over event is a sneak peek on what’s to come at this year’s Festival and will feature performances from The Warren G. Hardings, Jacob Miller and the Bridge City Crooners, Naomi Wachira, and Ben Hunter and Joe Seamons. This PreFest Party happens one night only, at Seattle’s Nectar Lounge.
Among the performing acts are The Warren G. Hardings, a Seattle quintet heavily influenced by America’s roots, folk, and bluegrass heritage, Jacob Miller and the Bridge City Crooners, who have taken the hot jazz of the 20’s and 30’s and combined it with country blues, western swing, and ragtime styles, Naomi Wachira, who was was named the Best Folk Singer in Seattle by Seattle Weekly, and Ben Hunter and Joe Seamons, who were awarded 1st place out of 94 solo/duo acts representing 16 countries at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tennessee.
The annual free Northwest Folklife Festival is the largest community-powered arts and culture festival in the United States. Drawing nearly 250,000 people over just four days, Northwest Folklife has programmed over 5,000 performers from more than 65 different genres of music, from Hawaiian music to hip-hop and dance performances representing cultures from Ireland to India. We believe everyone is a bearer of folk arts, and we encourage communities to share their cultural traditions, in the hope that interaction with new audiences will enrich the community as much as the audience.
