Concert Review: MS MR at the Neptune Theater

MSMR

I arrived at Neptune Theater in time for a Rainier before I got myself close to the stage for my second show that night. I was so happy to finally get to see MS MR, that was something we discussed during our interview last month. I missed them in Austin City Limits last year due to the second day cancellation. They promised they would bring their best game in Seattle and I expected nothing less from them.

The band took the stage a little after 10 p.m. and that meant it was was go time again. They started off with a song called “Reckless” from their new album How Does it Feel album, and then with “Fantasy” from “Secondhand Rapture”. They went on to play “Salty Sweet”, “Tripolar”, and “Think of You”. Max shared that the next song was written with the crowd in mind and they saw themselves playing it live for us. So he wanted us to participate in “How Does It Feel”, when it was time for the chorus, and we all screamed the lyrics out when it was time.

The set followed with “Wrong Victory”, “Tunnels”, and the high energy “Criminals”. They dedicated “Dark Doo Wop” to us, a love song. Then Max shared that “Pieces” was a song they wrote with good friend Tove Lo who is so talented (and a member of Lizzy’s Neon Gold Label), before she went into surgery the day after.

Their main song list ended with high energy songs “Leave me Alone” and the first song they wrote for their new album, Painted. Both of them had so much energy throughout the show it was hard not to get into it as much as them. Lizzy’s flawless voice along with Max’s chemistry made for a great production and they are a must see.

They came back for their encore and closed out the night with their most popular hits “Bones”, which was written the day after they first start working together, and “Hurricane” which showcases Lizzy’s strong unique sound. They really seem to be having a great time on stage, Lizzy’s contagious smile after every song was electric and everyone kept stating how happy she was. It was well worth the wait to see them and take some awesome shots of all the hair flipping that was going on all night.
