Northwest Music Month — Day 26: Pacific Echoes

Ladies and gentlemen, hello and welcome back to Northwest Music Month 2016, where we’re featuring a different local band or artist for your music discovering pleasure every day during the month of June, to help ring in a summer of local music. Some days these artists could be a regional favorite that’s already got a following, and other days they could be a complete unknown that you’ve never heard of. Today’s band comes to us from Seattle’s ever-productive indie rock scene, and is easily one of the most endearing acts we’ve discovered in recent memory, Pacific Echoes.

For those unfamiliar, Pacific Echoes are a Seattle rock band with a considerable pep in their step. Formed as recently as 2015, Pacific Echoes have been making small, but promising splashes in our local scene with their approach to indie rock, which shares similarities not only from tried-and-true classics in indie rock, but also more recent names like The 1975, in their playful and funky guitar tone and grooves. Pacific Echoes are also notable for their live presence, where the quartet isn’t afraid to get even looser and crazier. The band has played well-received shows with the likes of Gumshen, Shayna Rain, and former Northwest Music Month featured artist The Hasslers.

Pacific Echoes released their debut self-titled EP last month, a five-track collection of lively and easygoing rock music. The EP feels anything but by-the-numbers, however. On the EP you can catch all sorts of crafty recording techniques at play, specifically on tracks like “Labor of Love,” which features otherworldly reversed guitar chords and a generally woozy sonic presence, before the band comes barreling in with a really catchy guitar lead and infectious lead vocals. Pacific Echoes manage to experiment with the art of sound, while still coming out on the other side with an accessible and stick-in-your-head dynamic.

Indie rock diehards that want a young and ambitious group to really sink their teeth into, you have to check out Pacific Echoes. You won’t regret it.
