Mike Thrasher Presents is proud to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the first rock concerts at EJ’s—a weekend full of music, cheap PBR, and nostalgia in honor of one of Portland’s most beloved, now defunct, bars and live music venues. A popular hangout for musicians and music fans alike, EJ’s changed the Portland scene with its radical transformation from strip club to self-proclaimed “House of Rock” in January of 1995.
Reunion shows from Portland mainstays Gern Blanston, The Jimmies, Atomic 61, Nervous Christians, Iommi Stubbs, The Weaklings, The Goddamn Gentlemen and Heavy Johnson Trio will play alongside long-running outfits Fireballs of Freedom, Lucky Thirteens and Dirtclodfight, with many of them playing for the first time since EJ’s closed its doors in November of 2000.
The weekend of Jan. 9-10 will feature $5 advance tickets and $2 Pabst Blue Ribbon beers, a nod to the weekly drink special at EJ’s, as well as guest bartender Jeff Cooper, a former regular behind the bar at EJ’s. We’re gonna party like it’s 1995!
Mike Thrasher, owner of the Hawthorne Theatre and Mike Thrasher Presents, one of the largest event promoters in the Pacific Northwest, got his start in the mid-90s booking local bands and then national acts at EJ’s. Over the years, EJ’s played host to several local and nationally renowned punk, metal, and alternative acts, including Queens of the Stone Age, Mudhoney, Elliot Smith, Violent Femmes, Neurosis, Murder City Devils, and hundreds more.
$5 advance tickets will be available through Cascadetickets.com or at the Hawthorne Theatre. Tickets for both shows will be $10 night of show. 100% of the proceeds from ticket sales will be paid to the bands performing each night.
