Like Lightning at the Skylark September 27

I have a soft spot for Like Lightning. I heard their music at the right time, and it has stuck with me ever since as good songs will do with their melodies and their repeated phrases, the buildup of a chorus that drops softly into a second verse. The right time in question was April of 2011, which I know is a while ago, but you’re in luck. After some lineup changes and a hiatus or two, Like Lightning is back with a show at the Skylark this Friday, September 27, and a CD to follow soon. And also as luck would have it, they have a number of well recorded rehearsals on YouTube. My favorite is “Disappear.” It’s the song that captured my attention in 2011, the one I still listen to, the one that is featured in a chapter in my next book. But here, let’s let the band speak for themselves.

I love the build in this song. It never gets all the way up to a frenzy, but it doesn’t need to because of the overall beauty of it. It gets to just the right spot, like the porridge, not too hot, not too cold, but just right.

They’re playing at the Skylark Friday with Zoë Wick and Dearly Departed. Like Lightning is on second so don’t get there too late. I’ll be sitting at the end of the bar with a pint of Manny’s and letting the music do its thing.
