Concert Review: Bob Dylan and his Band
Venue: The Paramount, Seattle, WA
Date: October 17, 2014
Bob Dylan, the songwriting laureate of our times opened his 2014 fall tour on Friday, October 17, to an adoring audience at The Paramount with panache. As the lights dimmed, the sounds of floating guitar vibrated through the music hall as he walked onto the stage.
And as the lights gently revealed, there he was, dressed in a very stylish black tunic jacket with white trim. Strollin’ to the microphone, Bob Dylan starts to croon, the lights dimmed enough to see his mysterious eyes in the shadows.
Throughout the evening, Mr. Dylan sang solo at center stage into the microphone. He would alternate between playin’ his harmonica and floating over to the piano. Backed by a top-notch band featuring Stu Kimball on rhythm guitar, Donnie Herron on pedal steel, lap steel, electric mandolin, banjo, violin, Charlie Sexton on lead guitar, Tony Garnier on bass guitar, and George Receli on drums, percussion, and the entire performance was mesmerizing.
Bob played several songs from the piano, pounding the keys and dancing on his bench, exuding a sly smile. Many of the songs that were performed came from his output from the past decade. The set was tight and played with assurance.
Bob Dylan and his band will be playing at the Paramount two more nights and tickets are still available. Don’t miss your chance to see one of the greatest songwriters in this intimate setting.
